The University of Buckingham Medical School
Let's Work Together!!!
Organising revision sessions is one of the many goals for our medical societies to achieve and we are aware of this. The peer-led teaching society wants you to know that we are not trying to take these opportunities away from you and you are indeed allowed to still host peer-to-peer teaching events. However, we are trying to create a platform that will encourage and allow the involvement of all the societies in the medical school to organise such peer-to-peer teaching sessions.
We do not just want to organise basic revisions sessions with limited spaces, we want these sessions to be bigger and better than they have ever been. We want various societies to be involved at different times of the year and bring something unique to whatever session they are involved in.
Our idea to have a single calendar of peer-led teaching events for the entire medical school with set dates for monthly tutorial sessions, as well as exam revision sessions that can run year in year out is a big task that will require many hands and brains. We want as many societies that are interested in being involved in the planning of tutorial sessions to jump on this opportunity. Through our society and our single tutorial calendar plan, we can prevent the organisation of similar events by different societies, as well as prevent the clashing of our schedule with dissimilar events. We can also develop a society involvement plan that will allow all societies to host at least one exam revision session a year.
To put this into perspective, in Phase 1 there are usually 6 sets of exams a year across both first and second-year students. If we have a total of 12 societies in the medical school, we can have 2 societies working together to organise one revision session, say ETA 2, for example. With a fixed schedule that is set months ahead of time and more hands-on-deck, there is a greater chance of creating an enlightening and engaging event that will accommodate as many students that are interested. It will also be easier to organise.
We have discussed these plans extensively with the Medical school and Buckingham Students' Union and we all believe it is a step in the right direction for the development of peer-led teaching activities in the University. We hope to collaborate with you all to create a sustainable peer-led teaching environment for the University of Buckingham Medical School.
Get in touch with us if you or your society would like to get involved.
Please note: We are looking to organise revision sessions for the upcoming ETAs and you can let us know if you would like to be part of it's planning.
