Case studies can be extremely useful in putting the biomedical principles learnt in Medicine into context, giving you a good idea of the situations you can come across as a doctor.
Here are some links (in brown, underlined) to resources in my OneDrive, which contain books full of case studies, and some have questions similar to what can be found in exams. I may continue to update this blog, so do keep an eye out for that!
- This is a link to a folder full of case study books from the Case Files series. They discuss cases in depth, and have questions similar to USMLE, so definitely useful for those who wish to take that exam. However it is useful for others too, due to the rather detailed explanations.
- This link is to a folder of case study books from the 100 Cases in... series. This series covers a variety of topics, but I personally find the Ethics and Law book, as well as the Paramedics book particularly interesting!
- This link is for the Clinical Cases Uncovered series. Like the previous ones, it covers several vignettes, but particularly notable are the MCQ, SAQ and EMQ questions at the back, somewhat similar to the questions that can be found in our exams.
- Physiology Cases and Problems 4e - for many systems studied in medicine, such as cardiovascular and GI tract, this contains a series of vignettes with questions. The format is different to the SAQs asked in our exams, because of the longer answers for the questions in this book. However, it is still useful in developing understanding of some topics.
- For those interested in public health, this may be interesting: Case Studies in Occupational Epidemiology
- These will be useful for those interested in Radiology
- For material more directly relating to the ECG (these will contain ECG patterns that will not be expected of you to learn in preclinical years, but certainly useful to those who want to learn more):
- For students with an interest in Haematology:
